Identity

Our Mission:

To bring people to Jesus and to be Jesus to people

Our Name:

Immanuel comes from the Hebrew words Immanu, meaning “with us” and El, meaning “God.” It is one of the names given to Jesus to affirm that He was “God with us.”

Our group has taken the name Immanuel as an affirmation that we are called to be the Body of Christ and as a reminder that God is always with us, calling us and empowering us to take part in His work in the world.

Our Vision:

We believe that God created us to be in community with Him as He is with Himself through the Trinity. We believe that He makes that community possible through His Son, Jesus Christ. We are committed to developing spiritual friendships with those who do and do not know Jesus, in the hopes that all of them would seek to know him more. Our hope is to always be seekers and to develop into disciples. Our vision is to provide opporunities for becoming more like Jesus through our relationships -- with God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), with others, and with those who are in need.

Our Core Values:

Discipleship  –  Becoming more like Jesus…

 Community   –  through our relationships…

 Worship        –  with God…

 Evangelism   –  with others…

Service          –  and with those in need.

Our Core Beliefs:  Our core beliefs line up with those found in the written by Christians almost 1700 years ago.

We further believe that…

  • God alone is to be worshipped because he is Creator and Savior. All people must humble themselves, acknowledge that they are created by God, and live as part of God's kingdom.

  • God's holiness, love, and faithfulness are core attributes which shape authentic Christian living.

  • Humans are created to live in relationship with God. As disciples of Christ personally relate to God through prayer, Bible study, worship and meditation, they are transformed into his nature and reflect his glory.

  • Humans sin by elevating self and following Satan's temptations. Sin then shatters not only the human relationship with God but also human relationships with humans.

  • Jesus Christ, God's only Son, became human to show his Father's nature and to reconcile sinful humankind to God by his death, burial, and resurrection. The passion events exemplify God's power, compassion, holiness, and faithfulness.

  • The Holy Spirit empowers God's people to overcome their sin and leads them into God's mission.

  • God, because of His great compassion, has saved us through the sacrifice of his only Son. Salvation is by God's initiative, his mercy, despite our sin. Believers respond to God's work in Christ through faith and baptism. Baptism is the participation in the death, burial, and resurrection, where God cleanses the sinner, makes him a new person, and indwells him with the Holy Spirit. Faith and baptism are intricately related to each other.

  • The church must be an authentic fellowship of God's kingdom people who journey through life helping each other continue as Christ's disciples and encouraging others to join them in God's reconciling, redeeming, and restoring work in Christ.

  • Conversion is a turning from darkness to light, from the dominion of Satan to the kingdom of God , from focus on Self to focus on God and others.

  • The Bible is authoritative and the major source of our understanding of a Christian worldview.

Our prayer

Our prayer is for new life, peace, reconciliation, and healing for Austin and for our broken world. God’s people have a word for that new life, peace, reconciliation, and healing -- it is “shalom”. Saying “shalom” purposefully means to offer a peace treaty, a pledge to live for the other’s well-being, a covenant to desire and seek the good life of God’s favor together. Our desire as a community is to offer “shalom” to you.
