ICA Sunday Pulpit Message
Absolute Goal for the Gospel Noble Family – Restoration of the Gospel (14)
God’s Miracle Follows the Flow of the Covenant (Jos 16:1-10)
It’s good to see you. Greet those around you. Have you had a good week? Today’s title is, “God’s miracle follows the flow of the Covenant”. It’s the word of God. A man reaps what he sows. It’s in Galatians 6:7. If you put something in, you will receive something out. A famous writer said that the actions that we do are changed into different values and will affect our lives. They exist in different form. After, time passes, it will come back. There is this artist, who had mental difficulties and committed suicide. His life was sad. However, the passion that he put into his works were something that we should acknowledge. Even though he had difficulties, he had works acknowledged by others. We can input energy when we put effort into something. Those input will have outputs. In today’s scriptures, the descendants of Joseph got their allotments of land. The people of Judea were ahead of them in receiving the land. Even though they were the defendants of the 4th son, they received land as the 1st son. The 11th sons of Joseph received land last. If you look at the scriptures, the descendants of Joseph are receiving a great privilege. He doesn’t break his order. It doesn’t look like it’s in order if it’s in chapter 16. Why are the descendants of Joseph receiving a great privilege? Joseph was the 11th son. He received great love from Jacob. He held onto the dream of world evangelization through God. Joseph was the younger brother and received so much blessings, so his older brothers were jealous. He was treated unfairly from his brothers. The brothers tried to kill Joseph, so he was sold as a slave. Joseph struggled for a long time. He had to live in extreme situations as a slave. He was wrongly imprisoned. Sometimes, he would help someone and would still be betrayed. However, God’s grace was bigger. He became the prime minister of Egypt. His life completely changed. At the time, there was a crisis with food. Joseph met his brothers, but didn’t take revenge. He helped them. Those brothers were people who gave hardships to him. They brought about pain. He became a model of saving those brothers. This is an emotional deed. Joseph held onto the covenant of God. He gave rice to them because they were starving. He let them live in the greatest land. What he did was amazing. Let us look at ourselves. Living in America isn’t easy. Most of us are strangers to this land. Our English isn’t perfect so we are excluded from the mainstream culture. Suppose someone graduates from a renowned university in Korea, but they sell donuts here. Another examples are if someone works in a renowned company in Korea, but they wash laundry here. They won’t earn a lot of money and have problems. There are a lot of people who are trying to apply for permanent residence. They might have health problems as well. If there are others who are well off, others would complain about their own life. They would presume that this problem came from another person. You would be mad at others as if they were enemies. However, those moments are important. You have to speak with your belief and act with your belief. Even Joseph forgave those sufferings. It’s because Joseph only looked upon the Covenant of God. He overcame crises. God has given this story for us to live the same way. We must pour our love for the people who are our enemies. If there are people who give us difficulties, forgive them. Help them. In 1 Peter 3, it says to not take back bad things. Rather do something good for them. For that reason, God called us. Joseph’s family line returned all the bad things into good things. So Joseph’s sons were blessed.
1. The good deeds of the person who held onto Christ’s covenant will be given the blessing of the descendants as a return
(1) Joseph held onto the covenant of evangelism and world mission and overcame al crises (Gen 37:7, 9, Gen 41:38-43)
(2) Joseph didn’t take revenge against his brothers, he rather saved them from adversities (Gen 45:5-15)
(3) Jacob blessed Joseph’s 2 sons, and their descendants received special privilege when they were distributed the land of Canaan (Gen 48:1-6, Jos 16:1-4)
Their descendants received special privileges. At that time, Joseph’s descendants received privileges. If the person who is holding onto the Covenant of Christ and does good deeds, they will be given a descendant’s blessings. What should we remember? When the people of Christ hold onto the Covenant and do good deeds, they will be given a descendant’s blessings. Even non-believers have difficulties and overcome adversity. John Bunyan wrote “The Pilgrim’s Progress” in prison. Edison was deaf, but was a great inventor. Milton was blind but became a famous poet. FDR was handicap, but became the president of the US. Those people who overcame difficulties were utilized in different ways. The Vikings were unintelligent. They made large ships in order to overcome strong winds. Because of that great ship, they could overcome strong winds. This means that great individuals overcame adversities. Who is the most foolish in the world? It is the person who takes God’s trials as curses. Christian’s shouldn’t do that and confess with faith and thanksgiving with holding onto the covenant of God. May the blessing that Joseph received be yours.
2. Do not lose hold of the blessing of the authorities (Church leaders and Parents) who held onto the covenant
(1) Noah’ declaration (Gen 9:25-27)
(2) Jacob’s blessing (Gen 38:19-20)
(3) Paul’s prayer (2Tim 1:3)
There is 1 thing that God did for you to enjoy blessings. God blessed the 2 sons of Joseph. God let those 2 sons of Joseph receive prayer from Jacob. It is in Genesis 48. God blesses them through the blessings of prayer through the spiritual authorities. It is written well in Genesis 48. Jacob prays for his own son Joseph. In Chapter 48:15-16, “Then he blessed Joseph and said, "May the God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day, the Angel who has delivered me from all harm --may he bless these boys. May they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they increase greatly upon the earth.” May the sons be a source of blessings like Abraham. May them receive blessings like Isaac as well. God allowed Jacob to pray for his son, Joseph, and his grands sons. He blessed them that day and said, "In your name will Israel pronounce this blessing: 'May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh.' " So he put Ephraim ahead of Manasseh. That Jacob’s prayers for his son and grandsons exactly were fulfilled. It is the amazing work of God. The prayer of the father took place through the sons. In the Bible, the prayer of authorities comes out a lot. Look at Noah. Noah proclaims to his sons and blesses Shem and Japheth, but curses Ham. This is a scary thing. You must remember that the prayer of blessing through a parent will be fulfilled through their children. Paul prayed for Timothy and he was Paul’s spiritual son. If you truly know the prayer given by the parents, you will be amazed. In the church, there is an authority leader who gives the message. We are different when we know the authority of the prayer given by spiritual authority. Water flows from upstream to downstream. It is the same with the blessings of God. The Bible says to respect your parents in Him. If you receive the word from someone, be with the person who gives the message. However, if you do not have the relationship, the blessing will be cut off. May all the remnants here respect their parents. May all the saints also have mutual communication with the messenger. This is an accurate way to bless their descendants. We have children here. May you confess that you love them. When you confess, the relationship will get better. Satan is trying to block this blessing. The family oriented society becomes more individualized. The family system that God wants is to have a big family. Now, we see smaller families more often. We have new-comers here. These days, you see a lot of people respect their parents, but not their grandparents. God has brought grandparents so we see grand-children respect their grandparents. We see Ephraim in today’s scripture. He was blessed because of his grandfather, Jacob’s prayer. This is the will and method of God. You mustn’t say this is traditional. This is the command of God. In Malachi 4:5-6, "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse." It’s showing that as time passes, we will not see children respecting their fathers as much. May the young people here not forget to receive prayer blessings from their parents and spiritual authority. Our Lord Jesus came as a prophet and priest. Did Jesus proclaim to demand respect? What did John the Baptist do? Jesus asked John for baptism. John was surprised. He asked why are you doing this. John said that He was the one who was supposed to bless him. Jesus replied that this was the method of God and wasn’t’ a mistake. John the Baptist was born earlier. He gave his ministry earlier so he baptizes Jesus, then Jesus begins His ministry. It’s telling us how accurate this blessing is. May you not lose hold onto the prayer of blessing from your parents and spiritual authorities.
3. The one who inherits the covenant must continue to fight the battle to completely follow the covenant
(1) Joseph’s second son Ephraim went ahead of the first son Manasseh in receiving blessings (Num 1:33, 35)
(2) However, as time passes, the descendants of Manasseh were rather ahead of Ephraim’s descendants (Num 26:28, 35)
(3) At the end, Ephraim’s descendants were corrupt by Canaan’s idol worship and were destroyed (Hs 9:3-17)
The people who inherit the covenant must fight the battle. We must know one more thing. Joseph’s descendants received great blessings according the blessing of God. His 2nd son, Ephraim received blessings more that the 1st son Manasseh. As time passes, the tables have been turned. At that time, they would assess how much they receive the blessings according to the population. In Numbers 1, they took a census. In Numbers 26, they did it again. In Numbers 1, Ephraim’s people were numbers at about 40,500. Manasseh’s people were at 32,200. In chapter 26, Ephraim’s people decreased to 32,500 and Manasseh’s people had about 52,700. The answer is in Joshua 16:10. “They did not dislodge the Canaanites living in Gezer; to this day the Canaanites live among the people of Ephraim but are required to do forced labor.” They were taking the Canaanites as slaves and they lived in their land. Time passes. Then idol worship was widely spread in Canaan. Ephraim’s descendants started to become corrupt and leave God. It was the age of Hosea. It is written in Hosea that they perished. It says something terrible in Hosea. Even if they raised children, they would be taken away. Ephraim would be beaten and have no roots. All the newly born babies would all be killed. They would wander with no land. They were separated from the blessing of God. Their descendants continued to perish. This shows how if something isn’t God’s will, you will perish. Maybe you won’t go to hell, but you will face failure. This is the history you must look at. You must make sure that the descendants enjoy this covenant. They must have battle in faith. Teach them and pray for them. If you’re trying to restrain from doing worldly things, that would deceive you even more. We need to know the basics and start from there. We must explain things one by one. We give them the model. We train them so they can apply the message even more. You encourage one another and help them. Sometimes parents can’t do this. They are emotional and greedy. They allow their children to do whatever. That would close their hearts and not receive the word. They will not receive blessings. Every time the remnant arises, you have to explain this. We must apply this so remnant can be great individuals. There are bad habits of smoking, drugs, drinking and game addiction. You don’t have to say it’s really bad, but you have to explain it. 1st, the Bible doesn’t say to not smoke. In the book of Job chapter 41, it talks about it. “Smoke pours from his nostrils as from a boiling pot over a fire of reeds” The leviathan is Satan. It talks about how it’s from a plant and smoke comes out. When you smoke, you’re planting Satan’s form. You smoke for your own pleasure, but it’s slowly forming Satan. The shadow of Satan will unknowingly form. Drugs paralyzes your mental system through plants. It is Satan’s scheme to not discern. God is trying to lead us to discern what is good and bad. In Romans 12:2, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Your emotion peaks when you take drugs. When others look at you, you will think that they are staring at you. Others are trying to shake your hand, but you might think they’re trying to hit you. Drugs will take all the blessing away from you. In Philippians 1:10, “so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ,” We must explain that people may be doing drugs, but that is taking away from your blessings. Drinking wine is fine, in moderation. You don’t go to hell for being drunk. We must explain what is in the Bible. In Leviticus 10:9, "You and your sons are not to drink wine or other fermented drink whenever you go into the Tent of Meeting, or you will die. This is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come.” We must know the little things in detail in Numbers 6:3, “he must abstain from wine and other fermented drink and must not drink vinegar made from wine or from other fermented drink. He must not drink grape juice or eat grapes or raisins.” In Deut. 29:6, “You ate no bread and drank no wine or other fermented drink. I did this so that you might know that I am the LORD your God.” In Judges 13:7, “But he said to me, 'You will conceive and give birth to a son. Now then, drink no wine or other fermented drink and do not eat anything unclean, because the boy will be a Nazirite of God from birth until the day of his death.” We have held onto the covenant of remnants. We have received more blessings than Nasserites. In Proverbs 20:1, “Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise.” In Proverbs 31:4-6, "It is not for kings, O Lemuel-- not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer, lest they drink and forget what the law decrees, and deprive all the oppressed of their rights. Give beer to those who are perishing, wine to those who are in anguish” Suppose a person is asking you to drink, it’s the same as asking you to die. In Isaiah 5:11, “Woe to those who rise early in the morning to run after their drinks, who stay up late at night till they are inflamed with wine.” It talks about how if you follow strong drinks from the early morning to night, bad things will happen. in Isaiah 28:7, “And these also stagger from wine and reel from beer: Priests and prophets stagger from beer and are befuddled with wine; they reel from beer, they stagger when seeing visions, they stumble when rendering decisions.” In Luke 1:15, “for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth.” In Rome 13:13, “Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.” In 1 Corinthians 5:11, “But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.” In 1 Corinthians 6:10, “nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” In Galatians 5:21, “and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” In Ephesians 5:18. “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.” In the Bible, there are a lot of verses about it. In 1 Timothy 5, Paul tells his disciples to drink. You must drink the juice of the grape to cleanse the body. He took in alcohol through approval of an authority. You have to fulfill those conditions. There are people who drink a lot. Because they are more relaxed. You must teach your children. We have the internet culture. You can’t find God’s answers through gambling. You become a servant through the finances of darkness. I am giving you time until the last week of June. You might think that you can conquer the world through gaming. Most games these days are violent. Sex between a man and woman is beautiful because you make new children, but pornography defiles that. Homosexuality is the work of Satan that takes place at the end of ages. It violates the principle of creation. Because God is furious, the end comes. Homosexuality is going to be rampant. Even in this 21st century, homosexuality tries to use the argument of human rights. If you open your eyes, the church officers must teach the remnants the truth. We need to block the disasters. Tomorrow, we will do the 3rd intensive training. The church officers must follow and receive this training with the heart of servant to serve the king. Do not use your own characteristics. The children must respect and serve the parent and your team leader because it’s the will of God.
God’s miracle follows the covenant. The miracles took place to those who held onto the covenant of God and did good deeds. We used to be an enemy of God, but Jesus saved us. He gave the miracle for salvation to become a son of God. As we become the sons of God, we belong in Heaven. God will continuously give miracles to those who won’t forget the covenant of God and make it to continue. That family line will be known for the Gospel.
Dear God we give thinks. May your word be fulfilled. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
